Securing Ribbon Onto Your Scrapbook Page

Anyone who has ever used ribbon on their scrapbook page knows that it can be a challenge to secure the ribbon in place. There are different tips, tricks and tools to help make it easier and less messy.

Glue –  The fabric of the ribbon will soak up most wet adhesives – but not all wet adhesives. Inkssentials Glossy Accent Adhesives is one of the best all-around wet adhesives. It’s a water-based, clear gloss medium that creates a raised, shiny coat so you can accent elements of a page. However, used under embellishments, including ribbon, it becomes an effective glue! What’s great about using Inkssentials Glossy Accent Adhesives to secure ribbon is that is will stay down flat.

Glue lines – Glue Dots makes glue lines in a various sizes and thickness. Like all Glue Dots products, they are sticky and bond instantly! However, they are not as messy as liquid glue and definitely not as toxic in terms of fumes! Another thing to keep in mind when using glue lines for securing ribbon is that many are raised and will result in a more three-dimensional look.

Brads – There are two ways you can use brads to secure ribbon.

Consider using a paper piercer to poke a hole at the ends of the ribbon and using a brad to secure the ribbon. Another way is to wrap the ends of your ribbon around the brad. Both methods are easy, neat and can add another great look to your scrapbook page. Brads come in a variety of colors, sizes and even shapes. You can find holiday brads, brads with bling and more.

Eyelets – Use these to secure your ribbon as you would use a brad (as explained directly above). With the eyelet, you can run the ribbon directly through the center of the eyelet and glue it in place on the back side of your page.

Staples – Memory Makers makes staples in cool colors and even offers them with words on them. Consider using a decorative staple to secure your ribbon – particularly if you are using a thicker flat ribbon.

Experiment with different techniques. You’ll find that even the same technique can yield completely different results, depending on the ribbon you use. Some techniques work better for thick ribbon while others are ideal for thinner ribbon. Liquid glue, for example, seems to work better for rick rack. Eventually, you discover how simple it really is to use ribbon your scrap page.
