I want to re decorate my parents house?

Not completely re decorate but like alter things which are already in the house, like painting onto book shelves etc and framing art work and making different cushion covers.
What do you suggest I can do on a budget? I want to suprise them and I know they'll really apperciate anything I do. I have paints and alot of art supplies. I want to focus on the living room, kitchen and bathroom specifically and just make it more personal
